Program Length: 4 Weeks (60 Hours Total)
Format: In-person classroom & lab instruction
Location: Addison Institute Campus – Paterson, NJ
Schedule Options: Day and Evening Classes
Prerequisite: Active Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) License in New Jersey
🗓️ Weekly Breakdown
Week 1: Medication Fundamentals & Legal Foundations
Learn drug classifications, dosage forms, and medical abbreviations
Understand legal responsibilities, scope of practice, and state regulations
Review ethical standards, controlled substances, and resident rights
Week 2: Administration Techniques & Documentation
Practice safe administration of oral, topical, ophthalmic, and rectal medications
Master the 6 Rights of Medication Administration and infection control procedures
Document medication administration accurately on MARs (Medication Administration Records)
Week 3: Vital Signs, Observation & Emergency Response
Measure and record vital signs prior to and after medication administration
Recognize and report adverse reactions, side effects, and medication errors
Respond to emergencies using approved protocols and documentation
Week 4: Supervised Lab Skills & State Exam Prep
Complete hands-on medication passes in a simulated lab setting under RN supervision
Conduct peer-to-peer skill assessments using checklists and real-world scenarios
Review key exam topics and take practice tests to prepare for the NJ CMA Certification Exam
